On Thursday, August 11th, 2016 at 12:00pm Barrie Police were called to Sobey’s located at 37 Mapleview Drive West, in the City of Barrie, for reports of a child left in a vehicle. Upon arrival Police found the child in the care of a few citizens of Barrie who had assisted in getting the child out of the car.

It was reported that they had heard a child crying tracing the sound to a car with just the 23-month-old in the car seat with the window open approximately one inch. The child was removed and kept in the shade until the mother returned to the vehicle and subsequently police and paramedics arrived. Investigation revealed the mother was away from the vehicle for 16 minutes in total. The child was checked by paramedics and was determined to be in good health. The 34-year-old Barrie female was charged with Child Abandonment and will attend court in September to answer to the charge.
