(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Friday July 17, 2015, around 9:30 p.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol observed an intoxicated male pedestrian near the Anchor Pub on Wallace Ave North in Listowel.
The male refused to identify himself to the officer and became belligerent. The officer advised the male that he was under arrest for “being intoxicated in a public place”. The male began to actively resist the arrest and physically assaulted the officer, causing minor injuries to the officer. The officer with the help of a citizen was able to control and affect the arrest of the male prior to the arrival of other officers.
40-year-old Guy Edward CONEYBEARE of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
– Resist Peace Officer
– Assault a Peace Officer
He has also been charged with “Being intoxicated in a public place”, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on September 09, 2015, to answer to these charges.
