Goderich Tornado Story Book Launch

The book “Not Like Any Other Sunday” will be released on Friday, December 9th at a
book launch held in the historic Goderich Public Library.

“Not Like Any Other Sunday” is a compilation of more than 50 stories that came out
of the F3 Tornado that ripped through the town on August 21, 2011, destroying many
homes and businesses, and taking the life of one.

The book is co-edited by Elizabeth Bundy-Cooper and Cathy Cove. Elizabeth grew up
in Goderich and now resides in Stratford. She is the Content Editor of a Stratford news
website ionstratford.ca. Cathy just celebrated twenty-five years of calling Goderich home
and is a freelance writer for the Goderich Signal Star.

The two women came up with the idea to collect the stories and put them in print. It took
about 2 months to compile and edit the submissions before it went to print. The book
is being printed by Precision Print in Goderich and will be sold for $20 ea. All proceeds
will be donated to Victim Services of Huron County. Victim Services Executive Director
Shelley Dorey’s story of how she lost her home is a highlight of the book.

“One of the reasons why we picked Victim Services as a recipient of the proceeds is
because Shelley lost her home in the tornado,” says Bundy-Cooper. “She became the
victim at a critical time when there were so many other people who needed her help.”

Bundy-Cooper and Cove are humbled and honoured that the contributors trusted them
to help tell their stories. The stories are tragic, sad, happy and hopeful. It is interesting
to note that the stories in the book essentially take the same path the tornado did –
beginning at the harbour and then from west to east.

The Book Launch and Signing for “Not Like Any Other Sunday” is open to the public
and all contributors have been invited to attend. It runs from 4pm – 7pm and will be held
in the Reading Room of the Library. Official remarks at 5:15pm. Refreshments will be
available.

Books will be for sale in Goderich at Finchers, Something Irresistible, and the Chamber
of Commerce office. Mail orders will also be available via [email protected].
