(GODERICH, ON) – Evidently two young male drivers didn’t know an unmarked police car was right behind them when they decided to have a drag race in the Town of Goderich last week.
At approximately 10:23 p.m. on June 12, 2018 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was stopped at the lights at the intersection of Victoria Street and Elgin Avenue when he observed the two drivers directly in front of him communicating and gesturing with each other.
Moments later the drivers of a BMW and an Acura sped off northbound on Victoria Street travelling in excess of the 50 km/h speed limit. The officer followed closely behind in his cruiser and while doing so he activated his RADAR. A speed measurement was taken and the speeds of both vehicles were locked at a rate of speed in excess of 100 km/h by the time they had reached Brock Street.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and both drivers pulled over without incident. Nathan DEROOS, 20 years of age, from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and 18-year-old Wyatt PORTER from North Huron were both charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Perform a Stunt – Speeding in Excess of 50 km/h. They will each have to attend Provincial Offences Court on July 24, 2018.
In addition, their licences were automatically suspended for seven days and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
