(BLUEWATER, ON) – An impaired driver that nearly took a splash in the Bayfield River last week is facing a number of charges after police responded to a collision at the Bayfield Marina & Harbour. Just before 8:00 a.m. on December 9, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to the collision scene located at the Bayfield Marina. Police arrived on scene to find a GMC Acadia nearly crashed into the river at the north pier. The vehicle was found to be stuck on a cement post in a very precarious position. Inside the vehicle, officers observed a male occupying the driver’s seat sound asleep. Officers were able to rouse the male and safely get the male out of the vehicle.
Upon speaking with the driver officers noted the male had been drinking alcohol and also noticed he was displaying several signs that his ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the driver was arrested for Impaired Care & Control. He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath to an Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his tests registered over the legal limit.
Ryan GARTON, 36 years of age, from Goderich has been charged with Impaired Care & Control, Care & Control Over 80 Milligrams, Careless Driving and Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 11, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
