Girlfriend Tries To Release Drunk Driver From Police Cruiser

At approximately 11am, Barrie Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Pringle Dr in the south west area of Barrie.

Residents advised Police the driver had driven into a parked car and was believed to be in an impaired condition.

Police arrested a 36 year old Barrie male for impaired driving and placed him in the rear of a Police cruiser.

He was also found in possession of crack pipe and crack cocaine.

As this was occurring, the accused 31 year old girlfriend became upset over the arrest and opened the Police cruiser door in an attempt to free her boyfriend.

Police arrested her for obstruct Police and took her into custody.

She was held till sober and released to a February Court date.

The male was transported to the Barrie Police Service where he supplied breath samples that were over twice the legal limit of 80mgs/100ml.

His rental car was impounded for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment program (VIP).

He is being held for a bail hearing for impaired driving and possession of a narcotic.
