Four Brampton men have been arrested in relation to a string of recent thefts from motor vehicles in Georgetown.
On August 23rd, 2016 at approximately 3:30am police were dispatched to the area of Barber Drive and 10 Sideroad for reports of sounding car alarms. A local homeowner noticed that several of his parked vehicles had been ransacked and he quickly contacted police.
Four males attempted to flee the area but responding officers located them nearby in possession of stolen property. The males were arrested without incident. Further investigation revealed that this group was responsible for numerous vehicle entries in the area overnight and in recent weeks. A large amount of property has been recovered including Canadian currency and electronics.
Charged each with 1 count of possession of stolen property and 11 counts of theft under are:
Samuel OSEI-BOATENG, 22 of Brampton,
D’Andre FERGUSON, 21 of Brampton,
McKenzie RYAN, 19 of Brampton,
Prince DOWNER, 18 of Brampton
Mr. RYAN is facing an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The four men are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Residents are being reminded to ensure that their vehicles are always locked overnight as an effective way to prevent thefts. Other prevention approaches include installing motion activated outdoor lights and audible car alarms. Valuables should not be left inside vehicles where they can easily be seen by culprits. These types of incidents are often times crimes of opportunity and prevention is achievable.
