Gas Theft Results In Arrest

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) On Tuesday October 18, 2011 shortly after 6 a.m. Perth County OPP officers in Listowel were dispatched to a reported gas drive-off from the Petro Canada gas station on Main St. West in Listowel. A male person had obtained fuel and left without paying in an older model Dodge pickup truck.

Perth County OPP officers patrolled for the truck and spotted it with three male occupants in the Town of Mitchell later in the morning. The truck was pulled over near a residence on Hwy 8 west of Wimpole Street. One of the three truck occupants was arrested while the other two ran from the truck.

Police closed Hwy. 8 west of Mitchell and utilized the West Region OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team to locate the other two males. Later in the morning the other two males were arrested without incident. The house where the pickup truck stopped remains under containment by police. As a result of the containment, Highway 8 on the west end of Mitchell remains closed and traffic is re-routed around the scene. This police action is to ensure safety for the neigbours and the motoring public.

Investigation by the OPP West Region Crime Unit and the OPP Perth County Crime Unit is continuing into this incident.
