On Sunday September 25, 2016, just shortly before 11:00pm, a disturbance occurred between two men known to each other inside an apartment located at 132 Gailmont Drive.
Paramedics responded to provide assistance to one of the men who sustained a non-life threatening injury believed to be caused after being struck with a bottle. Police were contacted. While receiving care from paramedics who responded to the address the other man became assaultive and demanded everyone to leave. The man forced the paramedics and injured man from the apartment and then barricaded himself inside. Police on site attempted to speak with the man but he refused to cooperate. The man armed himself with what was believed to be a knife while inside and indicated he would harm anyone who entered the apartment and was damaging property inside.
The Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit and other resources responded and attempted to speak with the man to resolve the situation safely throughout the evening.
Just shortly after 4:30am the man exited the apartment without incident and turned himself over to police. The man is now in custody and the investigation into the assault is ongoing at this time. No details on charges at this time.
Police thank the public for their patience in the area while police attended to the incident inside.
