Freezing rain warning in effect for:
Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County
Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County
Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.
A moisture laden low pressure area located over Kentucky this morning will bring quite the mix of wintery precipitation to the region as it passes by south of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today and tonight then to southeastern Quebec Thursday.
Snow and ice pellets are expected to arrive this morning with a few centimetres quite possible. The snow will then then change over to a freezing rain and ice pellet mixture by noon. The freezing rain is expected to last several hours into the afternoon before changing over to rain by evening.
Precipitation will change back to all snow overnight or early Thursday morning as colder air gets pumped in from the north in the wake of this large and messy low pressure area. About 2 to 5 cm of snow are expected on Thursday.
Environment Canada continues to monitor this system very closely.
Travelling conditions are expected to quickly deteriorate this morning as the precipitation moves in.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
