Freezing Rain Aftermath

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) As a result of the extreme overnight weather, the County of Wellington OPP are reminding motorists to take extra care on our roads and highways today. The high winds and freezing rain overnight has resulted in downed power lines, damaged hydro poles, fallen trees and branches causing widespread power outages. Hydro crews and Wellington County Road personnel are working to restore power and clear the roads. Motorists should be aware that some roads in the County may be closed due to the downed power lines and damaged poles.

OPP encourage motorists to take extra care on the roadways today, and exercise caution and patience when approaching County and Hydro vehicles parked on the roadway.

Please DO NOT call the Provincial Communications Centre (PCC) (Dispatch) for road and weather conditions. Police will not provide this information. Calling the PCC ties up phone lines that others depend upon for emergency situations.

For information on road closures, contact the MTO at 1-800-268-4686, or online at www.mto.gov.on.ca.
