The Owen Sound Police Service would like to advise the public of an individual that appears to be targeting the elderly. The unknown male had contacted numerous elderly residents within the city of Owen Sound, Ontario and posed as a grandson who had been involved in a motor vehicle collision en-route to a funeral in Montreal, Quebec. The unknown male then requests that the victim send him money to pay for vehicle repairs. As of now the unknown male has not successfully completed a fraud. Police are advising the public to verify any such incidents through other family members and to not provide the names of their family members to the caller. Other similar incidents involve family members being arrested and requiring bail money. Police are advising the public to be extremely cautious when anyone calls asking for funds to be transferred by way of wire transfers.
