On November 11, 2016, Waterloo Regional Police began an investigation after receiving a report that a board member with the Hespeler Minor Softball Association had allegedly committed fraud and theft. The thefts allegedly occurred between July 31, 2015 and June 27, 2016 and relate to the unlawful use, and misappropriation, of funds. On November 28, 2016, Waterloo Regional Police charged Kimberly Melo-Roberts, 33, from Cambridge, with theft over $5,000.
