Fraud Alert

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On December 30th, 2011 at 5:10 pm, the South Bruce OPP received a report of an attempted fraud by email. The message appeared to be sent from American Airlines with information on a flight reservation. The recipient had made no travel plans which was confirmed by a call to American Airlines. The South Bruce OPP is sending another reminder for area residents to be wary of unsolicited phone calls, emails, letters or faxes. Con artists are using the names of legitimate companies in their attempts to separate you from your hard earned money…don’t “buy into it”. The best way to handle these scams is to ignore them: delete the emails, recycle the letters or faxes and hang up the phone. Anyone interested in more information on fraud can contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca/.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
