Fraud Alert

Location: WHITE ELM BLVD, WATERLOO, ON Canada

Waterloo Regional Police remind the public to be aware of fraudsters who say they are employed with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and are contacting people and demanding payment of an outstanding debt using prepaid Visa or MasterCards. The fraudsters threaten the victims with imminent arrest and detention in order to obtain the payment. In a recent incident the fraudster identified himself using a common name and demanded 1,978.66. The victim, fearing the consequences of not complying with the demands, paid the money with several prepaid cards. Police were able to intervene and cancelled the cards. The victim will receive a full refund.
