Four Year Old Ejected In Crash

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron OPP officers and Huron County Paramedics responded to a two vehicle collision that occurred July 29, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Britannia Road East and Victoria Street South.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene to investigate the collision. The investigation revealed the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling westbound on Britannia Road East failed to stop for a stop sign on Britannia Road East and entered the intersection at Victoria Street South. The Silverado collided with a Dodge Durango that was turning north onto Victoria Street. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

A four year old female child was ejected clear from the Dodge Durango. She was transported to hospital in London and was released later that night with minor injuries. There were four other occupants in the Dodge Durango. The 30 year old male driver sustained minor injuries, a 28 year old female sustained minor injuries, an 8 year old female sustained minor injuries and a 3 year old boy was uninjured. All of the occupants in the Durango were from Goderich.

A 20 year old female passenger in the Chevrolet Silverado from Bluewater was treated and released from Alexandra & Marine General Hospital in Goderich with minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, a 16 year old male, from the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop and Drive Motor Vehicle – Expired Validation Sticker. The driver of the Dodge Durango, Mark Meriam, 30, from Goderich has been charged with Fail to Ensure Child Properly Secured.
