York Regional Police is warning the public about the dangers associated with the use of illegal drugs after several people were hospitalized for accidental overdoses.
In a five-day period between June 1, 2016, and June 5, 2016, police responded to four separate incidents in the Town of Georgina where individuals had accidentally overdosed on what they believed was either heroin or cocaine. Each of the individuals involved were in life-threatening medical distress and taken to hospital. All have since recovered.
The substances involved in these incidents have been sent to Health Canada for analysis.
York Regional Police is reminding the public that illegal drugs pose potentially deadly health risks as they can be laced or contaminated with harmful substances.
York Regional Police reminds the public that residents can help in our crackdown on the use of illegal drugs and drug houses, drug trafficking and the sale of instruments and paraphernalia for use with illicit drugs in their communities. If residents are concerned about illegal activities at a business or residence, we encourage them to call police.
