Four Arrested For Owen Sound Coin Thefts

On the evening of May 4, 2015, the Owen Sound Police Service was contacted by the owner of a laundromat reporting that there had been a theft from a coin machine at the business. Uniform members attended the business and were able to quickly put out a broadcast to other area police services with a description of the persons involved and their vehicle.

Just before midnight, the vehicle was stopped by a Grey County OPP officer and the four persons were identified as being suspects in the previous theft from the laundromat. The female operating the vehicle attempted to obstruct the officer by providing a false name. The two males and two females from the Kawartha Lakes area and the vehicle were turned over to the Owen Sound Police. The investigation was continued by members of the Criminal Investigation Branch resulting in similar crimes being identified that were committed by the four suspects while they were in Owen Sound. Two other businesses with coin operated machines had them compromised using special devices resulting in large quantities of coin being stolen. The two males were found to have the devices on their person when arrested. All four persons have been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 5, 2016. This investigation continues and a large quantity of coin has been recovered. The total of the recovered coin remains undetermined at this time.
