Foot pursuit ends in gun seizure and arrest on Heatherington Road

(Ottawa) While conducting proactive bicycle patrols in the Heatherington/Fairlea community this afternoon, officers from the Ottawa Police Service East District Neighborhood Section encountered a male with what appeared to be an open container of alcohol. Officers approached the male on bicycle to confirm he was not consuming alcohol in a prohibited location.

Officers engaged the male and he became increasingly nervous and attempted to flee the officers. As he ran, he discarded items and gained access to a residential unit the 1400 block of Heatherington Road.

Officers chased the man into the residence, arrested him and they recovered a fully loaded 45 calibre handgun. No one was injured in the matter.

“This is outstanding police work by members of the East Division Neighbourhood Team,” said Insp. Pat Flanagan, East District Directorate. “They are out in the community daily addressing safety concerns and working to improve the quality of life for residents.”
