On March 29th, 2016, just after 4:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a complaint on Highway 40 near Highway 401, of a Chevrolet pickup truck driving southbound. The vehicle then entered onto highway 401 eastbound.
Information received by the OPP was that male parties within the vehicles were allegedly observed shooting handguns outside the vehicle window. The vehicle exited the 401 at Kent Bridge Road and continued into Ridgetown.
Chatham-Kent Police Officers and Chatham-Kent OPP officers located the vehicle in Ridgetown and as a result a high-risk traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and five males were arrested.
A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and police located toy imitation firearms within the vehicle.
The OPP continued with the investigation and as a result the five males were released and cautioned on the carelessness of their actions.
No injuries were reported and no charges were laid.
