Firearm & Ammunition Seized by Drug Unit

(Ottawa) On Friday July 4, 2014, the Ottawa Police Service Drug Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Team, executed three simultaneous Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrants in the 0-100 block of Fieldrow Avenue, the 0-100 block of Roberta Crescent and the 1300 block of Meadowlands Drive.

As a result of the drug warrant executions, items seized included a .380 Auto Colt Mark IV handgun with a fully loaded magazine, as well as 50 rounds of .357 hollow point ammunition, 150 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 223 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

Also seized were 244 grams of marihuana valued at $2,400.00, 12.5 grams of crack cocaine valued at $2,500.00, and 5.7 grams of Cannabis Resin valued at approx. $85.

A total of $40,180.00 in Canadian currency and $500.00 in U.S. currency was also seized.

As a result of the Drug Unit warrant and investigation, 6 people have been charged.

Abdulaziz MUFFAREH, 25 year old male, Nasser MUFFAREH, 22 year old male, Nicole LARABIE, 35 year old female, and a young offender, all from Ottawa are jointly charged with one count each of:

Possession of a loaded firearm sec 95(1) CC
Unsafe Storage of a Firearm sec 86(1) CC
Possession of a Restricted Weapon sec 91(1) CC
Unlicensed Possession of a Restricted Weapon sec 91(2) CC
Possession of a Prohibited Weapon sec 91(2) CC
Possession of a Weapon Dangerous sec 88(1) CC
Possession of Proceeds under $5000.00 sec 354(b) CC
Abdulaziz MUFFAREH, Fawaz MUFFAREH, 20 year old male, and Kevin BERGERON, 29 year old male, also all from Ottawa are jointly charged with one count each of:

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance (crack cocaine) sec 5(2) CDSA
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) sec 5(2) CDSA
Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000.00 sec 354(a) CC
Abdulaziz MUFFAREH is also facing 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition while prohibited sec 117.01(1) CC, and 1 count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5000.00 sec 354(a) CC.

Nasser MUFFAREH is also facing 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition while prohibited sec 117.01(1) CC and 1 count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5000.00 sec 354(a) CC.

Kevin BERGERON is also facing 1 count of Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis resin) sec 4(1) CDSA and 1 count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000.00.

Both Abdulaziz MUFFAREH and Nasser MUFFAREH attended a Show Cause hearing and were held in custody until their next court dates on July 9, 2014. Nicole LARABIE attended a Show Cause hearing and was released on a Recognizance of Bail. Fawaz MUFFAREH and Kevin BERGERON were released on Promises to Appear with Undertakings. The young offender was released on a Summons.

“This is the second time in less than three weeks that detectives from the Ottawa Police Drug Unit have recovered handguns and ammunition during the course of their warrant executions,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Ian McDonell, Drug Unit. “This underlines the threat posed to public safety by those involved in the drug trafficking subculture.”
