On April 3, 2014 at 6:38 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 35 Westra Road. Fire units from Imperial Road, Wyndham Street, Elizabeth Street, Stone Road and Speedvale Avenue stations arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke and fire conditions showing from the roof of the house. The first two arriving crews did an aggressive interior fire attack. The fire was contained to the attic of the house. This house was in the final stages of construction and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The fire was brought under control and subsequently extinguished.
There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation.
Also on scene in support were Guelph Police Service, Guelph Wellington Emergency Medical Service, Guelph Hydro, Guelph Union Gas and Environment Protection Office.
