On Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11:32 p.m., the London Police Service responded to 140 Langarth Street West with London Fire Services and Middlesex-London EMS in relation to a fire at that location. A resident was alerted to the incident by the smoke alarm in his unit. The resident then activated a fire alarm after observing fire on the exterior of the building, and other occupants fled to safety. London Fire Services members removed an occupant of the affected unit and he was transported to hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased is Christopher Joseph MANUEL, 39 years.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and the West Region Coroner attended to investigate, along with members of the London Police Service Criminal Investigation Division. A final determination with respect to manner and cause of death remains under investigation by the West Region Coroner.
The incident is not considered to be criminally suspicious, however members of the London Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal remain at the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. The London Police Service will continue to provide assistance to the Coroner and the Fire Marshal as required.
