(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On July 16, 2016 at 1:19 p.m., the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision on 6 Highway between Johnsons Harbour Road and Emmet Lake Road in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. The Bruce Peninsula OPP along with the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) Team, Bruce and Grey County Emergency Medical Services, Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department and ORNGE Air Ambulance attended the scene.
A 2016 blue Jeep Patriot and a 2002 blue Subaru Impreza were involved in a head on collision. A third vehicle, a white 2016 Jeep Wrangler, was also involved. The highway was closed for approximately 9 hours.
A driver and 3-year-old child from the Jeep Patriot were transported via ambulance and later air-lifted to hospital for serious non-life-threatening injuries and are all stable. A passenger was air-lifted from the scene with serious non-life threatening injuries and is stable.
The passenger from the blue Subaru Impreza was transported via ambulance and later air-lifted to hospital for serious non-life-threatening injuries and is stable. The driver, 32-year-old Sean SMITH, from North York was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A driver, passenger and two children, 4-years-old and 4-months old, from the Jeep Wrangler were cleared medically from the collision scene.
The Bruce Peninsula OPP is thanking the public for avoiding this section of the highway while emergency services could continue their work.
The collision is still under investigation and no charges have been laid at this time.
