(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Friday July 24, 2015, shortly before 11 p.m., a member of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) came upon a two vehicle collision that had just occurred on Highway 23 north of Line 84 in Listowel.
Investigation revealed that an Oldsmobile Intrigue had been travelling north bound on Highway 23, when it collided with the back of a north bound Freightliner truck and full sized trailer that had pulled onto the highway from Line 84. The male driver of the Intrigue, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Intrigue has been identified as 27-year-old Alex John SZABLOWSKI of Wellington North Twp.
The truck driver, a 61-year- old male from Harriston, sustained minor injuries.
The Perth County OPP and Members of the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
Highway 23, from Line 81 to Barnett St. W, is expected to remain closed to traffic until approximately 7:30 a.m. This will accommodate the safe removal of the vehicles from the scene.
