(SOUTH PERTH, ON) – A collision that took place earlier this afternoon (19July) between the border of Perth and Huron counties has turned into a fatal motor vehicle crash investigation.
At approximately 1:50 p.m. Huron and Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers along with a Granton Fire Department members and paramedics from both counties responded to the crash scene located just north of Woodham on Perth Road 164 (County Road 23).
The preliminary investigation has revealed the driver of a float tractor-trailer unit was travelling northbound on Road 164 when the driver came to a stop for a red light traffic signal that was controlling traffic at the south end of a construction zone. Moments later a northbound Ford Econoline van collided with the rear end of the stopped tractor-trailer unit.
The lone occupant of the van was extricated from the vehicle by fire crews and was transported to a local hospital by land ambulance. The van driver was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The deceased has been identified as Jeffery MCROBERT, 40 years of age from Zorra Township.
OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are currently on scene investigating the collision.
