On 31 August 2015 at 4:45pm, an excavator was being operated in the construction area of King St N by Highway 85 in the City of Waterloo. The excavator was traveling north and passed under a power wire and a Rogers fiber optic cable that crossed King St N. The operator rotated the excavator to continue working and a hose protruding from the arm caught the two wires. As the excavator continued to rotate it pulled on the wires breaking the steel guide wire and the hydro pole on the east side on King. Police, Hydro and Rogers all responded. King St N was shut down for both north and south bound traffic for 5 hours while repairs were made.
