Evan Smith – Drug Driving

(GODERICH, ON) – A traffic stop Monday, April 29, 2013 just before 7:00 p.m. has resulted in an 18 year old male facing Impaired Driving and Drug Possession charges. A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a blue Hyundai Santa Fe on St. David Street for an equipment violation. Upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of an illegal drug inside the vehicle. The officer also observed an illegal drug inside the vehicle. The driver was promptly arrested and a search was conducted. Drug paraphernalia and marihuana were seized.

The driver was displaying several signs of impairment by drug. He was subsequently arrested for driving while impaired by drug. He was transported to the Exeter OPP detachment where an OPP Drug Recognition Expert confirmed the male was under the influence of a drug and his ability to drive was impaired.

As a result, Evan SMITH, 18, from Goderich has been charged with Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1) (a) Criminal Code and Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to section 4 (1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 13, 2013.
