(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind citizens who are participating in the many great events of this year’s Paddyfest, to enjoy them safely and responsibly.
Paddyfest 2016 has been underway for a number of weeks and is set to culminate this weekend with major events including concerts. These events bring friends and family together to socialize and often, the consumption of intoxicating substances is part of the gathering. The OPP urges everyone to socialize in a responsible manner and consider that this event can be one of the most dangerous days on roadways due to impaired driving.
Impaired driving involves the operating or having care or control of a motor vehicle while the person’s ability to operate the motor vehicle is impaired by alcohol or drugs. It is a crime under the Criminal Code of Canada, and the consequences are serious.
Impaired driving is preventable.
This weekend Perth County OPP officers will be out on patrol in full numbers with additional officers at the major Paddyfest events. OPP Highway Safety Division officers and patrol officers will also be conducting many Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs.
Before drinking, come up with a plan that involves not driving, plan a safe way home from the celebrations, such as arranging for a sober driver, planning to stay over, taking a cab, hiring a designated driving service, and/or organising other appropriate options to keep you, your family, and your friends safe.
Don’t drink and drive, don’t let those who are drinking drive and be sure to report those who do”.
The OPP is asking citizens to help them crack down on impaired drivers, if you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1.
