Yesterday afternoon at about 2:00 pm police observed a pickup truck turn north off Sage Close onto Orangewood Boulevard with two boys sitting in the open bed of the truck. Both boys had bright orange hats on and were easily seen. As a result, police stopped the truck which was being operated by an elderly male. The driver was the only occupant inside the extended cab truck.
Police advised the driver of the stop and how it was illegal to have persons in the vehicle not occupying a position with a seat belt. Subsequently, the driver was charged with Drive while passenger under 16 fails to occupy position with seat belt, which is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Police would like to remind citizens that this is not only an offence, but a very dangerous practice. These passengers have no protection and are always ejected from the vehicle in a crash.
