Eight Facing Prescription Drug Charges – Names Released

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Over the past year Huron County has identified an increase in the abuse of prescription drugs within the county. As a result, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau Drug Enforcement Unit (DES) initiated investigations that resulted in eight persons being charged with a total of 71 criminal and drug related charges. Charges included: Double Doctoring, Personation and Uttering Forged Documents.

Communities within Huron County have shown great community interest in assisting police with this emerging trend. Partnerships have been formed with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), local pharmacies, physicians, and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Quantities of OxyContin of various strengths, benzodiazepines, methylphenidates found on various schedules of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were found to have been obtained by multiple sources and believed to have been diverted into the community.

Four of the accused reside in Huron County, two from Oxford County and one each from Stratford and London. The persons charged will be attending court in their jurisdiction to answer to the charges.
