Drunk Driver Tries To Avoid RIDE – Stopped On Josephine Street Wingham

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A 60 year old driver is facing an Over 80 charge following a traffic stop this past weekend. Shortly before midnight on December 19, 2014 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped the driver of a Dodge Caravan that attempted to avoid a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program set up at the intersection of Helena Street and Turnberry Street. Officers watched as the driver made a three point turn away from the checkpoint. Officers followed the driver and were able to stop the driver on Josephine Street in Wingham.

Upon speaking with the driver police noted the male had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was arrested and subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 60 year old Frank CHARTRAND from North Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham on January 22, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
