Drunk Driver Rolls Vehicle – Passengers Extricated

At approximately 02:30 am a vehicle being driven by a 21 year old Chatsworth area man was involved in a roll over in the construction portion of 8th Street East hill. The driver and his two passengers were travelling eastbound and entered into the closed road portion of the hill. Upon doing so, the driver lost control on the gravel, struck an exposed culvert, resulting in the vehicle rolling over. The driver was able to crawl out of his vehicle however the two passengers remained trapped and required emergency services to extricate them. All were transported to the hospital. One passenger sustained a broken wrist, the driver was being treated for a possible head injury and the other passenger sustained superficial injuries. The driver, who had been drinking, provided breath samples with results 1 ½ times the legal limit. The vehicle, a 2014 Toyota sedan, was severely damaged, estimated at $20 000. The culvert was also damaged, estimated at $500. The driver must now attend court in early September to answer to charges of Operating a motor vehicle with over 80mgs of alcohol causing bodily harm as well as some Highway Traffic Act charges including driving on a closed road.
