(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Sunday September 13, 2015, shortly before 11 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision along Hwy 8 near Road 140 west of Sebringville. The crash involved a pickup truck and a minivan.
Investigation revealed that an east bound GMC Sierra pickup truck on Hwy 8 passed a number of vehicles before striking the back of an east bound Dodge Caravan. The impact caused the pickup truck to cross the west bound lane and enter the north ditch where the truck came to a stop. The driver of the Dodge Caravan was able to stop safely on the highway.
Officers checked on the wellbeing of the involved drivers and while speaking to the driver of the pickup truck determined that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages. A roadside breath test was administered which he failed. The driver was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he also failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.
25-year-old Joseph Edward BROWN of Stratford has been charged with “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 05, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.
The 59-year-old male driver of the Dodge Caravan, a resident of the Municipality of Central Huron sustained minimal injuries.
