Drunk Driver Hits Trees & Flips Vehicle

A 26 year-old Owen Sound woman was lucky to have walked away with only minor injuries following an early morning crash.

Shortly after 3:00 AM the woman was driving her 2013 Ford Edge southbound in the 1800 block of 8th Avenue East. At 18th Street East she failed to stop at the intersection and proceeded southbound into Duncan McLellan Park at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle drove up a small hill and struck two sizeable trees before flipping and landing on its roof near the concession building of the park. The car was demolished in the crash. The woman was able to escape the overturned vehicle.

The woman was investigated by police and found to be impaired by alcohol. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of what appear to be minor injuries. Breath tests were performed at the hospital and the woman was found to have excessive blood alcohol. She was released from custody and will appear in court in May to face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operate a motor vehicle with excess blood alcohol.
