(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On January 30, 2016 at approximately 5:14 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a 2005 Mazda stopped in the live lane northbound on Wellington Street in Palmerston, Town of Minto. The concerned citizen advised that the vehicle had been stopped there for approximately 15-20 minutes and they were concerned for his well-being.
Officers attended and observed the male driver passed out while seated behind the steering wheel and the vehicle still in drive. Police were able to wake up the driver and immediately detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath and observed other obvious signs of impairment.
The driver was arrested and taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for testing.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
32-year-old Ryan KONING has been charged with Care or Control While Impaired and Care or Control Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 15, 2016 to answer to the charges.
