(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Thursday April 07, 2016, around 10:30 a.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) regarding a possible impaired driver who had been observed driving a small pickup truck in an erratic manner north bound on Hwy 23 near Bornholm.
The pickup truck continued north bound through the village of Monkton and was observed by a Perth County OPP officer south of Atwood. The officer was able to safely pull over the blue Ford Ranger pickup truck in the village of Atwood.
The officer, while dealing with the male driver of the Ford Ranger obtained grounds of alcohol consumption and impairment. The male was arrested and transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment, where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.
43-year-old Gregory B. VEALE of Amaranth Twp. has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences; “driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol)”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood”.
He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on April 27, 2016 to answer to these charges.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days as per statue.
Driving sober and drug-free is the only way to end the numerous impaired driving related deaths that occur on Ontario roads every year. If you or someone you know, plan on drinking alcoholic beverages, or consume drugs, plan not to drive. Instead arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight, or take public transit.
