Drunk Driver Caught In Beer Store Parking Lot

Police received a call to attend the Bayfield Street Beer Store with regards to a person they refused to serve due to his level of intoxication. The male left the store and employees watched him attempt to get into a vehicle in the parking lot. They intervened and prevented the male from driving the vehicle until police arrived.

Police arrested the 64 year old Barrie male for care and control while impaired. He was taken to the station and provided samples of his breath that were twice the legal blood alcohol concentration limit. He was held for bail on charges of care and control while impaired and care and control while over 80mgs. There was no licence to seize as the male is currently under 3 separate Criminal Code driving prohibitions.

The male is well known to police as a habitual offender of criminal code driving offences. As a result, in the interest of public safety, police impounded his vehicle under authority of the Highway Traffic Act and plan not to release it until disposition of his pending charges.
