(HOWICK, ON) – A 47 year old driver from Mildmay is facing an Over 80 charge and a Drive Under Suspension charge after he was stopped by police on April 4, 2015. Just after 9:30 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Pontiac Montana mini-van travelling in the middle of the road on Salem Road. The investigating officer then watched as the driver turned into a private driveway.
The officer followed the driver into the laneway and proceeded to speak with the driver. The driver identified himself to the officer and upon doing so he informed the officer that he held a suspended driver’s licence.
Also, upon speaking with the male driver it was noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail on the roadside test. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
A driver’s licence check was performed and it confirmed the driver held a suspended driver’s licence.
As a result, 47 year old Jerry ORTMAN from Mildmay has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Drive Under Suspension. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham on June 18, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
