(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Thursday August 11, 2016, after 11 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting one of their many Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs. They had set up at the intersection of Perth Line 36 and Road 122 (North of Straftord), when shortly before 11:30 p.m. a Volkswagen Jetta entered the RIDE program.
An officer while speaking with the lone male driver of the Jetta, made determination that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver failed a roadside breath test and also failed two subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests at the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville.
As a result of the police investigation, 51-year-old Daniel GESINGHAUS of Wilmot Twp. has been charged with driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Stratford Criminal Court of Justice on September 12, 2016. He was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
The Perth County OPP wants to remind the public that RIDE programs are conducted throughout the year in an attempt to keep our roads safe from impaired and intoxicated motorists. The public is also encouraged to report impaired or erratic drivers. Calls can be made to police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers can be contacted at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
