Drunk Driver Arrested On Gorrie Line – SCHMIDT

(HOWICK, ON) – A 47-year-old driver from North Perth is facing an Over 80 charge and a ticket for Driving with Open Alcohol following a traffic stop that took place over the weekend.

Shortly before midnight on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2018) the driver of a Chevrolet Blazer entered into a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint that was set up at the intersection of Perth Road 178 and Gorrie Line.

Upon speaking with the male driver the investigating officer noted several signs that the driver had consumed some alcohol. As a result, the driver was directed to provide a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device. The driver complied with the request and provided a sample that registered a Fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was then transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment for breath tests.

He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit. A search of the vehicle also revealed the driver to be in possession of open alcohol.

As a result, 47-year-old Shawn SCHMIDT from North Perth has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol.

He was later released from custody with an upcoming court appearance scheduled for April 16, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
