(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Tuesday March 14, 2017 shortly before 9:00 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision near the intersection on Union Street West and Wallace Avenue South in the Municipality of North Perth.
A Honda Civic struck a guardrail and then attempted to drive away. This was unsuccessful and the driver left on foot. The responding officer located the driver with the assistance of members of the public. The driver was displaying obvious signs of impairment. He provided inaccurate information concerning his identity to the officer. Through investigation it was determined that he was the driver and he was arrested and taken to Perth County OPP detachment in Listowel for further testing. He later provided samples of his breath into an Intoxilyzer and registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 31-year-old Cole SMITH from North Perth has been charged with driving with more than 80 Milligrams of alcohol, driving while ability impaired and obstruction of a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code.
He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on April 19, 2017.
