(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Monday April 04, 2016, shortly after 8 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed an east bound motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Perth Line 86 east of Listowel. The black Dodge sedan was measured to be travelling in excess of 50 kilometers per hour (km/h) over the posted 80 km/h speed limit.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and while speaking with the male driver observed an open container with an alcoholic beverage beside him. The officer also detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage being emitted from the driver’s breath and other additional signs of impairment were also noted. The driver was arrested and transported to the Teviotdale OPP Detachment where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests, registering readings in excess of three times the legal limit.
44-year-old Jason Thomas PALMER of Barrie has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences; “driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol)”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood”.
He was also charged with the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offence of; “race a motor vehicle”. In addition he faces a charge under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario for the offence of; “driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor”.
He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford to answer to these charges.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days as per statue.
