On Monday the 21st of July 2014, Kitchener Patrol officers, Kitchener Fire Department members and Paramedics were dispatched to a a townhouse unit on Heiman Street in Kitchener for a male resident who had sustained burns. Once on scene, Patrol officers observed evidence of a suspected marihuana oil extraction lab and notified Drug Branch members. The Fire Marshall’s office was also notified of the incident. Officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on the 22nd of July 2014 clad in protective clothing. Drug Branch members observed several burnt canisters of butane gas, and seized 28 grams of marihuana bud, 58 grams of marihuana shake and $2800 in Canadian currency. The City of Kitchener building department advised the building sustained no significant structural damage. A further search of the residence was conducted on July 23rd. The injured resident was taken to the hospital and is recovering. Charges are pending.
