Drug Unit outdoor marihuana eradication project results

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Drug Unit has concluded its fall 2015 outdoor marihuana eradication project.

During the course of the investigation, police identified 15 locations across both the East and West southern rural areas of the city. Police located and harvested 22 “patches”.

A total of 1,505 marihuana plants (approximately 2000 kgs) – valued in excess of $1,505,000.00 – have been seized. No suspect(s) have been identified at this time.

“The seizure of this quantity of marihuana represents a significant loss of illicit profits which finance a variety of criminal enterprises including gun smuggling, human trafficking and cocaine importation,” said A/Staff Sergeant Ian McDonell, Drug Unit.

Anyone with information relating to drug activity is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Drug Unit at 613-236-1222 extension 5083. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS), toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
