Driver Impaired By Drug Arrested In St.Marys

(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Friday August 12, 2016, around 7 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver operating a Jeep Wrangler on Queen St. W. in St.Marys.

Shortly after 7 p.m. officers located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Queen St. E. and Church St. The vehicle was pulled over, and while speaking with the female driver signs of impairment were noted. The driver was given a sobriety test and performed poorly.

The 55-year-old female driver a Zorra Twp. resident was placed under arrest for impaired driving by drug. She was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville, where she was evaluated by an officer who is a qualified Drug Recognition Expert.

As a result of this evaluation, the female driver has been charged with “driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (drug), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

She was released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to answer to this charge at the Stratford Criminal Court of Justice on September 12, 2016.
