(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Saturday June 27, 2015, shortly before 2 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the intersection of Perth Line 20 and Perth Road 130 for a two vehicle collision.
Investigation indicated that a motorhome towing a closed trailer was travelling east bound on Perth Line 20. While the motorhome was passing the intersection of Perth Road 130, a Honda sedan driving north bound on Perth Road 130 proceeded to cross Perth Road 130 and struck the trailer of the motorhome. The impact caused extensive damage to the Honda and the trailer.
The driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Honda, Adam HORTON (27) of London has been charged with “careless driving”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
The driver of the motorhome, a 63 year old male from Waterloo was uninjured.
This collision is another example of a completely avoidable crash. The north and southbound traffic on Perth Road 130 is controlled by stop signs while Perth Line 20 is the through roadway. Rumble strips are grooved into the pavement on Perth Road 130, alerting drivers of an approaching intersection.
Motorists need to take stopping and yielding at intersections seriously if we want to decrease the number of fatal and serious collisions.
Please “STOP AND LOOK”, at stop sign controlled intersections.
