On January 4, 2016 shortly after 12:30 p.m., members of the ROPE Unit located a 28-year-old Guelph male on Oxford Street in a vehicle that was wanted for parole violations. When officers approached the male to place him under arrest he reversed his vehicle in an attempt to flee. Officers attempted to block his path and in doing so the accused rammed one of the unmarked police cruisers. The accused drove over the front lawn of the residence and turned back out onto the street. As the accused’s vehicle entered the street and struck a second unmarked cruiser, drove over the boulevard on the other side of the road and back on to the street proceeding eastbound towards Norfolk Street. Once on Norfolk Street the accused sideswiped a third vehicle driven by a Guelph female. Guelph Police pursued the vehicle a short distance before the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. A short time later the involved vehicle was located unoccupied.
When located the driver will be arrested for;
1. Escape lawful custody
2. Dangerous driving
3. Flight from police
4. Fail to stop (x2)
5. Drive under suspension
One of the officers sustained minor injuries during the collision.
Damage estimates for the three vehicles are estimated at $35,000.
