(ACW, ON) On June 20, 2009 at approximately 2:00 am, Huron OPP officers set up a RIDE checkpoint on Southampton Street in Dungannon. Officers observed a vehicle slowly approach the checkpoint. The vehicle contained two males. While speaking to the driver, the officer detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The officer requested identification from the driver and he complied. The officer then issued a demand to the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The driver was told to pull to the curb to remove his vehicle from the lane of traffic. At this point the driver left the scene with the officer holding his licence, ownership and insurance card.
The officers followed the fleeing vehicle and located it in a private driveway. The driver had exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He could not be located.
As a result of the investigation, a 35 year old Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh man is facing one count of Fail to Stop for Police.
