Driver Charged With Third Impaired Driving Related Offence Since March 28th

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On April 7, 2016 Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver operating a 1995 GMC pick-up truck westbound on Grey Rd. 4 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The suspect vehicle and the driver were known to police, who observed the vehicle on Grey Rd. 4, west of Maxwell.

The officer activated the cruiser’s emergency lights in an effort to stop the vehicle which accelerated and pulled into a private driveway in an effort to evade police. The lone driver exited the vehicle and fled towards the residence but was quickly apprehended. The driver had been drinking alcohol. He was transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests, which he failed; having more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Police located an open container of alcohol inside the pick-up truck.

The 43-year old driver from the Municipality of Grey Highlands was charged with the following offences:

– impaired operation of a motor vehicle

– over 80 milligrams

– flight while pursued by a peace officer

– fail to comply with recognizance

– drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available

– driving while under suspension

This is his third arrested for impaired driving related offences since March 28, 2016 (Grey County OPP x 2 and Huronia West OPP).

A bail hearing is scheduled for April 8, 2016 in Owen Sound.
